Our Take On The Midsize Cars Sales Numbers

Demand for mid size cars in America fell by 12.8% year-on-year, marking a slow from last January’s 22% plummet in sales.

The start of 2018 brought little consolation for this segment, though there is some if you look closely.

The renewed Toyota Camry, leader in the mid size sedan chart, saw sales grow by 21.3% on last January, which while not as high as January 2016’s 26,848 deliveries is still a significant boost in a segment that desperately needs it.

Mid size hybrids and electrics managed year-on-year growth to start 2018, , with 2.8% more eco-cars being sold this January than last. Newcomers like the Hyundai Ioniq and Kia Niro are faring well, while a new Nissan Leaf, due later in the year, may shock that nameplate back into the mid-table.
