Our Take On The Sporty Cars Sales Numbers

It was the Chevrolet Camaro’s turn in the spotlight atop our muscle car countdown in September. After a bumper August, the Challenger slipped back down to third behind the Mustang, though it remains the only muscle car in the green year-to-date.

Despite significant year-on-year growth for the Boxster, it was pipped to the post by the Jaguar F-Type as our best-selling Euro Sports Car in September. The F-Type remains the only car in this segment for which sales have grown year-to-date compared with the same point last year, with Septembers sales putting it a second percentage point ahead of 2016’s performance.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI had its best month of 2017 so far in September. The Euro hot hatch has seen sales increase steadily since June. A 20.7% increase year-on-year is impressive whatever way you cut it. It will be interesting to see whether the impending 2018 model year refresh for it and the more powerful Golf R will bring further good tidings.

it’s traditional that sales of the convertible Mazda Miata MX-5 tail off heading into the winter months, but this year they’re proving resilient for September. 2017 has been kind to the little Mazda, with sales up 23.9% year-to-date.
