Small Car Sales In Canada – August 2017

The market for Subcompact cars in Canada is now down over a quarter YTD compared with a year ago. The Ford Fiesta sees sales begin to dwindle in Canada after the blue oval announced the supermini’s seventh incarnation will not go on sale in North America, while the leading Subcompact Hyundai Accent is approaching a model changeover, and posts figures that are down by over 1,000 sales on last August’s numbers.

The Volkswagen Golf had another good month in August to post impressive 83.9% year-on-year growth, after breaking through the 3k sales mark in Canada in July for the first time.

Scion’s exit from the marketplace has given way for the brand’s Beetle to go second in the Warm Hatch category behind the mighty Mini Cooper. It sold more than double as many units than in August 2016, making it the only car in the category to show growth on the same month last year.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBC’s Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank small cars of all kinds any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page. Mobile users can now thumb across the tables for full-width access.

* indicates a vehicle which is also shown in another GCBC segment breakdown.
GCBC isn’t here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you’ll see the Encore and XV Crosstrek are listed with small SUVs, too, and the Acura ILX shown with mainstream cars is also displayed with luxury cars… because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
