Midsize Car Sales In Canada - September 2016 YTD

2016 Chevrolet Malibu white
In spite of harsh declines reported by a number of midsize cars that lost half of their volume, September 2016 sales of midsize cars tumbled 10% in Canada.

But it could've been far worse.

Thanks to modest increases from the Nissan Altima and Subaru Legacy, a 20% uptick in sales of Canada's second-best-selling midsize car (the Honda Accord), and a huge 84% leap from September's top-selling Chevrolet Malibu, much of the volume lost by the Chrysler 200, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, and Mazda 6 was counteracted by gains elsewhere.

The Toyota Camry, Canada's top-selling midsize car through the first three-quarters of 2016, reported an 11% decrease in September sales.

With significant improvements from the Chevrolet Malibu and Honda Accord, the Camry fell from first place in September 2015 to third in September 2016.

But the Camry remains 2315 sales ahead of the second-ranked Honda Accord heading into the final quarter of 2016. America's best-selling car overall, the Camry ranks ninth overall in Canada.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why you'll see the Outback and Venza listed with midsize SUVs, too... because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
