Small And Midsize Luxury SUV Sales In America – November 2015 YTD

2016 Infiniti QX50

As their premium brand passenger car counterparts tumbled in November 2015, U.S. sales of 17 small/entry-level luxury crossovers jumped 34%.

Indeed, that 34% year-over-year improvement occurred during an abbreviated month. Automakers had only 23 days to sell automobiles in November 2015, down from 25 a year ago. As a result, these 17 luxury SUVs and crossovers actually posted a collective 45% increase in their daily selling rate, an increase from 951 sales per day in November 2014 to 1386 sales per day in November 2015.

An extraordinary number of those sales were produced by the BMW X3, sales of which more than doubled in November 2015. Audi and Mercedes-Benz posted 51% and 50% year-over-year gains with their least costly crossovers, the Q3 and GLA, respectively. Infiniti’s newly-elongated QX50 posted a 366% jump to a 908 November sales, a low total still, but exceptionally higher than normal. Not since 2008, when the QX50 was still the EX35, have sales risen this high.

GCBC isn’t here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains you’ll see the XC70 listed with luxury cars as well as with SUVs and crossovers and the Touareg with luxury SUVs and mainstream SUVs… because readers have wanted it both ways. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.
