Midsize Car Sales In America – June 2015 YTD

Few in number were the midsize cars that didn’t post meaningful year-over-year U.S. sales declines in June 2015. 

The Chrysler 200, transitioning from one generation to the next at this time a year ago, rather easily posted a huge year-over-year improvement in June 2015. 200 volume increased by 14,215 units; overall FCA midsize volume was up 47%.

The Mazda 6 posted an 11% gain in June 2015, the sixth consecutive increase reported by Mazda USA’s midsize car. The 6 is America’s tenth-ranked intermediate car.

Subaru Legacy volume jumped 45% in June, an increase of 1395 units. June marked the twelfth consecutive month that Legacy sales increased. It’s America’s eleventh-ranked midsize car.

The Nissan Altima’s 13% increase equalled 3307 extra sales for Nissan USA. The Altima, America’s second-ranked midsize car and third-best-selling car overall, is down 2.5% year-to-date.

And even with these gains, the core group of midsize cars was down 5% in June 2015, a worse decline than that which was posted by the overall passenger car category. Compared with the first six months of 2014, midsize car sales in America are down 4% through the first-half of 2015. Compared with the first-half of 2013, midsize car sales this year are down 7%.
