U.S. Market 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Production Begins

Production of 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miatas for U.S. consumption is now underway, Mazda announced today.

The first 1000 cars are special Launch Edition MX-5s. Priced from $30,495, the MX-5 Launch Edition is basically a Grand Touring model with keyless access, painted Soul Red with a tan leather interior.

The 2016 model is the fourth version of the world's best-selling roadster. Codename: ND. Sales of the MX-5 Miata have tumbled in the lead-up to the launch of the new car, but the MX-5 hasn't been selling as well as it did historically for quite some time. 2015 and 2016 are expected, nevertheless, to be big years for the car. 

U.S. Miata volume in 2014 fell below 5000 units, a 72% drop compared with 2006. The MX-5 is built in Hiroshima, Japan.

* Mazda USA issued a correction notice at 6:43 PM EST on April 20, 2015 in regards to the price of the MX-5 Launch Edition, which is $300 more expensive than first stated.
