Alfa Romeo Brand Sales Figures

Alfa Romeo Sales Reports

U.S & Canada Auto Sales for Alfa Romeo

Here you will find monthly and yearly Canadian and U.S. sales figures for the Alfa Romeo brand. Yes, Alfa Romeo sells cars in North America. Alfa Romeo were not available for sale in the U.S from 1995 through 2008. It started with its return to the market with the 8C Competizione supercar in 2009 (less than 100 units sold), followed by the exotic, two-seat 4C sports car that went on sale here in 2014. However, it was Alfa Romeo spending big to re-introduce itself to the U.S. during the Super Bowl in early 2017 with the launch of the Giulia range that signalled the historic Italian brand was finally back. Alfa has a lot in store for North American consumers with a full lineup for the first time in decades. Initial reviews and volumes are encouraging. It seems that Alfa Romeo has finally got its act together on producing genuinely great cars for North American consumers.

It is clear that Alfa Romeo’s return to the U.S. got underway in earnest with the launch of the Giulia sedan. Alfa spent upwards of $25 million for three Super Bowl ads, telling us about the Giulia. Focused on the hottest QV model that competes with the amazing C63AMG and M3 it captured the die-hard car guys attention – an Italian sports car with four doors priced with the Germans – Yes please. The reviews started trickling in and it looked like Alfa nailed it. Their halo model kicked everybody’s ass and the regular volume versions started to move off the lot.

Next up Alfa started to tantalize fans with promises of the Stelvio, Alfa’s new SUV. The introduction of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is Alfa’s better late than never attempt to tempt North American buyers into a seductive Italian SUV. Only the numbers will tell, but with a big marketing budget, gorgeous looks and the success of the Giulia, Alfa has a real shot at success and driving big growth.

Alfa Romeo for the first time in decades has a rounded lineup that includes a sedan, an SUV and a dedicated sports car. At GoodCarBadCar we see Alfa poised to grab a larger share of U.S. and Canadian auto sales. It seems pretty serious about establishing a foothold in the United States, a key target of Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne from well before the creation of FCA.

Our Take On Alfa Romeo Sales Numbers

With strong sales in Europe, investing millions into additional research and development to meet American regulations wasn’t a priority. Alfa’s best-ever sales year in the U.S. was 1986, with roughly 8,200 cars sold. By comparison, that’s slightly less than the number of F-150 pickups Ford sells every four days. When the company left our shores in 1995, it’s only offering was the front-wheel drive 164 sedan.

You can see from the Alfa sales charts and tables that while 8C and 4C were technically sold in the U.S and Canada, they were both low-volume and high-excitement sports cars that were very niche. It is the launch of the Alfa Romeo Giulia in 2017 that started to drive sales volumes. It is the sales story and provides an anchor spot in the range, we expect it to be the strongest seller amongst the new range of Alfa offerings. Early results have been reasonable considering most consumers haven’t seen the Alfa brand on local shores in decades.

We are eager to see how sales volumes will trend for the new Stelvio. It addresses the increasing demand for utility vehicles and while there are many options in this crowded market, the Stelvio is differentiated by its Italian design and unique performance characteristics. The Stelvio shares the same platform and powertrain with the Giulia.

Our sources have heard that Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne wants to sell 150,000 Alfas a year in North America. Given the small sales base today and its historical weakness in the market, that is going to be a massive undertaking. Sustained marketing investment and awesome cars is the minimum. If Alfa Romeo is going to sell 150,000 cars in the U.S. market it starts here.
