August 2013 U.S. Vehicle Sales Rankings - Top 262 Best-Selling Vehicles In America - Every Vehicle Ranked

2013 Honda CRZ blue
GCBC's year-to-date rankings of all 262 vehicles on sale in America show 28 different nameplates with more than 100,000 U.S. sales through the first eight months of 2013. That's up from 23 a year ago. Eleven nameplates have already attracted more than 200,000 buyers in 2013, up from six in the first eight months of 2012.

Including commercial vans (which GoodCarBadCar ranks separately), more than 924,000 more vehicles have been sold this year than during the same period in 2012. The Ford F-Series alone has generated an extra 90,394 sales. GM's Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are up by a combined 90,181 units. 47,022 more Ram pickups have been sold this year than last year. Car sales at American Honda's namesake division are up by 56,873 units. Chrysler Group cars were up by 58,677 sales.
The 67th-ranked Toyota Avalon is currently outselling the Lexus ES. No calendar year has ended with the Avalon ahead of the ES since 2006. At this time last year, the ES was 9479 sales ahead of the Avalon. The ES was ranked 88th - it's now ranked 69th. The Avalon was America's 113th-best-selling vehicle at the end of August 2012.

The Chevrolet Corvette, America's sports car, and the Porsche 911, one of the most iconic global nameplates in the history of the automobile, are America's 173rd and 174th-best-selling vehicles, respectively. The Corvette's 19-position slide from last year's standing is as predictable as the 911's slight improvement.

Many a sports car has reported significant year-over-year U.S. sales declines in 2013, from the Chevrolet Camaro to the Ford Mustang, Nissan 370Z, BMW 1-Series, Mazda MX-5, and Audi TT.

But Honda CR-Z sales are rising. Which is surely not an oft-used phrase.

These are year-to-date rankings, but you can sort vehicles by August volume by clicking the August 2013 column header, or you can rank vehicles by improvements or declines using the % columns. Or, most importantly, you can list automakers together by selecting the Vehicle column header. Just remember, the list is horizontally flipped from the norm: YTD on the left, monthly data on the right.

As always, you can find historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these vehicles by selecting a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page.

Italicized unranked lines are nothing more than available breakdowns, already included in the model's total, not in addition to the model's total.
Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maybach, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not broken down by model. ANDC estimates say sales for those brands in the first eight months of 2013 were 552, 1296, 368, 176, zero, and 672, respectively. HybridCars.com estimates that Tesla Model S sales totalled 13,150 units through eight months, which would be good enough to place it in the top 150 overall. Total Maserati and Bentley volume is reported, but not by specific models.
* Total Toyota Prius family sales up 3.9% to 170,866 in 2013, up 29.6% to 27,358 in August.

* Combined, the new Q50 and the outgoing G sedan are down 26.4% to 26,700 this year but rose 6.5% to 5454 in August. The G37 coupe and convertible and its renamed Q60 successor (same car) are down 22.3% to 7315 this year, falling 7.4% to 1054 in August. The Q50, Q60, and all G cars are down 19.7% to 34,015 this year - good enough to crack the top 85 - but rose 3.9% to 6508 in August.
* Chrysler markets the Ram not as a Dodge but as... er, a Ram, but we show it and the SRT Viper here as Dodges so you can see the vehicles with like-minded products when you sort vehicles alphabetically using the Vehicle column header.
