Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - July 2013

2013 Ford Fusion red
In July 2013, the Ford Fusion opened up a 2679-unit lead over the Canada's next-best-selling midsize car, the Honda Accord. Ford reported a 4% increase in Fusion sales in July; a 22% increase through the first seven months of 2013.

But midsize cars are not top sellers in Canada, not by any means. Honda sold three Civics for every one Fusion that Ford sold last month. Hyundai sold nearly four Elantras for every Camry that Toyota sold. Both the Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla sold twice as often as the Honda Accord.

Canada's three top-selling cars in July - Civic, Elantra, Corolla - all posted gains that were far better than that which the overall market managed. As Canada's auto industry grew 7% in July 2013, Civic sales shot up 36%, Elantra volume jumped 25%, and the outgoing Corolla was up 23%.

Four subcompacts cracked the top 20 in July, only two did so in June. There are four Detroit-brand cars in the top 20, including three Fords. Hyundai and Kia landed five cars in the top 16.

The bigger story in July relates not just to the Civic, however, but to Honda's retaking of the year-to-date lead. With a 656-unit victory in July, the Honda Civic is now 351 sales ahead of the Hyundai Elantra in the race to end 2013 as Canada's best-selling car. That lead may seem slim, but it seems unlikely, given Honda Canada's historic pursuit of the title, that the Elantra will make a comeback now.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these models can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well.
