Top 10 Worst-Selling Vehicles In Canada - April 2013

2013 Honda CR-Z purple
No matter how you shake it, the Honda CR-Z was the worst-selling automobile in Canada in April 2013. Bentley sold 450% more vehicles. Mercedes-Benz sold four times as many SLS AMGs as Honda sold CR-Zs. Mitsubishi sold twelve times as many all-electric i MiEVs.

Canadian sales of low-volume, niche market cars are bound to fluctuate. Perhaps the CR-Z's two-unit April is just an anomaly. Or perhaps not. CR-Z sales haven't been fluctuating. Since a high in 2011 of 100 units and a 2012 high of 40 units - in both April and May 2012 - CR-Z sales in Canada fell to 13 units last October and haven't topped ten units since. In fact, since it was first eligible for a year-over-year increase in August 2011, Honda Canada hasn't reported a single year-over-year improvement. Not a one.

And so, when measuring the vehicles marketed in Canada by volume, yes, the CR-Z ranks at the bottom. Measuring the vehicles marketed in Canada by decline - which shows how they're each performing relative to their own previous performances during the same season a year earlier - the CR-Z is also the worst of the bunch. Discontinued and on-hiatus vehicles like the Chevrolet Colorado, Hyundai Veracruz, Chevrolet HHR, Suzuki Kizashi, and Kia Sedona didn't record declines as bad as the CR-Z's.

Doesn't that suggest something about the littlest Honda's future? They got it wrong. It's slow, with too much front overhang, not enough seats, and not enough em-pee-gees. Kill it already. Even if Honda was able to post a huge, a massive year-over-year increase, they still likely wouldn't be selling many CR-Zs in Canada. Had CR-Z sales shot up 200% in April, Honda would have sold a record 120. Hyundai sold 434 Velosters in April.

Vehicle must have been on sale in April 2013, must not have been officially cancelled by its manufacturer, and must have been showcased on manufacturer's website in April. For the purposes of the worst sellers list, the Acura RL and RLX are being treated as one car. The rule that disallows discontinued or cancelled vehicles can lead to confusion, as manufacturers often announce the discontinuation of a model but continue to market the car indefinitely.  Sales of the Scion xD, for example, slid 43.8% to 36 units in April. Brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Maserati etc. do not issue model-specific monthly sales reports.
