January 2013 Minivan Sales In Canada

2013 Chrysler Town & Country deep crystal red

Canadians registered 5694 new minivans in January 2013, 17.4% of which were less conventional Orlandos, Rondos, and Mazda 5s. The Dodge Grand Caravan owned 48.7% of the market. Combined with its twin from Chrysler, the Town & Country, the duo’s market share fell to 59.6% from 60.5% a year ago.

As a whole, the minivan market fell 7.5% on a year-over-year basis, even as the overall new vehicle market slid 2.2%. Incidentally, after a strong 2012, the U.S. minivan market slid 6.9% last month.

Were it not for the Chrysler Town & Country’s huge 429-unit increase, the market’s slide would have been much worse. Sales of the top two-best-selling minivans, the Grand Caravan and Toyota Sienna, fell sharply.
