Bentley Brand Sales Figures

Bentley Brand Sales Reports

U.S & Canada Auto Sales for Bentley

Here you will find monthly and yearly Canadian and U.S. sales figures for the Bentley brand. Headquartered in Crewe, England, the company was founded as Bentley Motors Limited by W. O. Bentley in 1919 and has had a long and interesting history. Since 1998 has been a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. Bentley is best known for its early racing history, with cars like the Bentley 4½ Litre and Bentley Speed Six; the more recent Bentley R Type Continental and Bentley Turbo R having legendary status.

The current Bentley lineup is made up of the Continental Flying Spur, Continental GT, Bentley Bentayga and the Bentley Mulsanne. Today most Bentleys are assembled at the company’s Crewe factory, with a small number assembled at Volkswagen’s Dresden factory, Germany. There is no doubt that Bentley is the most successful upper-luxury brand of the Volkswagen Group in terms of sales volume in the last decade thanks in large part to the Continental GT which has been the cornerstone of the Bentley brand and its best selling car since its introduction in 2003.

The British brand expects more sales success with its first-ever SUV the Bentley Bentayga launching in 2016. They expect total Bentley sales to double even though the Bentayga is the most expensive, most luxurious SUV on the market and comes with a scarily high price. It became the brands best selling model in its first month of sales so maybe the guys at Crewe are onto something.

Our Take On Bentley Sales Numbers

The last decade has been nothing but awesome for Bentley in terms of sales success. Starting with the Continental GT that came flying out of the gates it has been all upward from there. The Continental GT instantly updated Bentley from being a brand about old-school luxury and performance to now being about modern looks and design plus performance that appealed to a younger buyer. In 2016 Bentley delivered 11,023 cars, its fourth consecutive year of above 10,000 cars sold. The company sales grew by 9% over the performance in 2015 (10,100 cars).

The United States continued to be Bentley’s number one region (2,792 cars and about 25% of total deliveries), with Europe (2,676 cars, up 56% year on year)and the UK (1,692 cars) both posting sales increases. Bentley delivered 1,239 cars to the Middle East in 2016, against 1,274 cars in 2015. The one weak market was China, with 1,595 cars delivered, marginally down on the previous year’s figure of 1,615. Six new model variants in 2016 and 20 new retailers (making a total of 210 partners in 59 markets) plus the strong customer demand for the Bentley Bentayga played a key role in this success in 2016.

The introduction of Bentayga in the American region in the second half of 2016 saw a record-high performance for a six-month period. Bentley’s production capacity of 5.000 annual units has already been sold before its launch. In its first year, almost 1,000 copies were delivered in Europe, making it Bentley’s second best selling model and boosting brand sales to near its 2007 peak.

In 2017 the year started well although we are seeing some softness in July and August and wonder whether that trend will continue in the latter months of the year. It is driven by Bentayga sales and it is unclear whether this is the new run rate for the big SUV after a big spike on initial launch or a sign of something else. We will see how sales play out for the rest of 2017.

While month to month growth rates are important to look at the U.S and Canadian auto markets are also very seasonal so looking at the year on year comparison for any given month is important.

For reference US = United States Sales, CAN – Canadian Sales, LM = Last Month, LY = Last Year and TTL = Total U.S and Canada.
