American auto sales totalled 1,053,405 in June 2011, up 7% from June 2010 levels. The U.S. automobile market has grown by 13% this year and now stands at 6.3 million sales through six months of 2011. The only brands to post year-over-year declines in the first half of 2011 are Acura, Chrysler, Lexus, Lincoln, smart and Toyota.

Jeep, a brand which doesn't sell a single passenger car, staved off frightening fuel prices to post a 74.2% increase. Jeep was America's ninth-most-popular brand in June 2011. Mercedes-Benz was the best-selling luxury brand in America in June with 22,563 sales, up 18.8%. Without the Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz sales totalled 20,652, fewer than BMW's output.

ReplyDeleteHey Tim, you may want to check you percentages. For instance: Hyundai for May was 59,214 and June 59,209. A decline of 5 cars, but the graph shows a +15.6%. Same with Kia, May was 48,212 and June 45,044, a decline of 2,968, but the graph shows a +41.2%. Looks like something went wrong in the calculations.
ReplyDelete@anyonymous: % gains or losses for new vehicles are always (unless otherwise noted) calculated based on year-over-year differences. So June 2011 for Hyundai (59,209) is compared against June 2010's 51,205. That's a 15.6% jump. Year-to-date figures in this post's case are based on the first six months of 2011 vs. the first six months of 2010. Hyundai, for example, was up from 255,782 in the first six months of 2010 to 322,797 in the first six months of 2011, a 26.2% increase.
