0-60 IN CAR AND DRIVER AUGUST 2010

2011 shelby gt500
Coming first in a car magazine comparison test when BMW's involved is an incredibly challenging task for rival automakers. But that's exactly what Audi did - again - in the August 2010 issue of Car & Driver. In a three-way comparo with the brand spankin' new Infiniti M37 and the brand spankin' new BMW 535i, the aging Audi A6 3.0T was roundly lauded for its steering, handling, and power. Shocking though it may sound, the BMW's dreadful steering feel and overall largesse that lead to the 535i's downfall.

Up a few thousand rungs on the price ladder, the gorgeous but predictable Aston Martin Rapide fell to Porsche's Panamera Turbo. Car & Driver also found the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 to be greatly improved but significantly overpriced.

Seven of the eleven automobiles which underwent performance testing for the August issue of C/D used automatic transmissions. One, the Porsche Panamera Turbo, used a direct-shift gearbox. The BMW hybrid came with a CVT. This meant only two cars, the two Fords incidentally, had three pedals. 0-60 mph times for all the cars tested by Car & Driver in the August 2010 issue are below.

-----

Porsche Panamera Turbo: 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds
Ford Shelby GT500: 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds
Aston Martin Rapide: 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds
BMW X6 ActiveHybrid: 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds
Hyundai Genesis 4.6: 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds (5.5 at 40K miles)
BMW 535i: 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds
Infiniti M37: 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds
Audi A6 3.0T: 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds
Cadillac SRX 4 Turbo: 0-60 mph in 7.2 seconds
Ford Fiesta SEL: 0-60 mph in 9.3 seconds

  1. Stupid Panamera. Hate that it's so fast. Hate that it's so ugly, really. If only it could be ugly and fast.

  2. Fiesta auto maybe quicker.
