General Motors watched gleefully as reports came in of Chevrolet Tahoe sales adding 50% to last May's total, the Chevrolet Suburban doubling last May's sales volume, and sales of GMC Yukon XL tripling May 2009's figure. The only blot on GM's large SUV canvas? GMC Yukon sales fell 30%; Cadillac Escalade sales fell slightly also.
Sales of the Ford Expedition and Nissan Armada also rose sharply. You may recall last May as being a malnourished period for purveyors of large SUVs. News that sales would climb from abysmal lows isn't all that surprising. But the Chevrolet Tahoe has once again climbed on to the list of best-selling SUVs in America, a fact which has nothing to do with May 2009.
