TOP 5 BEST-SELLING SUVs IN AMERICA - SEPTEMBER '09

Four automakers - five if you count Lexus separately from Toyota - are represented in the list of the Top 5 Best-Selling SUVs In America for September 2009. Sales Stats show one vehicle's continued dominance in the category and another you might be surprised to see still lingering on a Graph like this.

As far as the term "sport-utility vehicle" and its application here, only the fifth-best seller is a genuine body-on-frame, truck-based vehicle. The others use cars as foundations. Only one of these SUVs can be powered by a V8 and is, in fact, always V8-engined. Two offer hybrid powertrains and one is a 4-cylinder only. Front-wheel drive, you might like to know, is available on the four best-selling SUVs in America.

  1. I would blame cheap(ish) gas for the Tahoe's decent sales compared with last year but it looks like last year when fuel was high the Tahoe was selling alright too.
