Partly because of GoodCarBadCar.net's former status as a potential Nissan Cube winner in the hypercube.ca competiton, The Good Car Guy has taken a special interest in the little Nissan's battle with the Kia Soul. In the CubeSoul section of GoodCarBadCar you can read comparisons of their interiors, exteriors, and performance along with a final verdict.
Added to the section now is this post, a complete look at at Canadian and U.S. sales of the Nissan Cube and Kia Soul over the course of the warm months: May, June, July, and August. Before judging the Cube too harshly for its year-to-date figures, remember that the Kia Soul was on sale for a few weeks in advance of the Cube's arrival in North America. In spite of the Cube's heavy online promotion in Canada, Americans are responding to the Nissan slightly better - though still not offering the reception provided to the Kia. Canadian sales of the Soul are scandalously strong. Meanwhile, Canadian Nissan dealers sold less than three Cubes per dealer in the month of August.
MONTHLY SALES IN THE USA
Kia Soul (May): 3,855
Nissan Cube (May): 1,745
Kia Soul (June): 2,811
Nissan Cube (June): 2,137
Kia Soul (July): 4,853
Nissan Cube (July): 3,293
Kia Soul (August): 5,751
Nissan Cube (August): 5,347
Kia Soul (2009 year-to-date): 21,778
Nissan Cube (2009 year-to-date): 12,522
MONTHLY SALES IN CANADA
Kia Soul (May): 1,017
Nissan Cube (May): 171
Kia Soul (June): 1,105
Nissan Cube (June): 368
Kia Soul (July): 936
Nissan Cube (July): 412
Kia Soul (August): 868
Nissan Cube (August): 355
Kia Soul (2009 year-to-date): 5,638
Nissan Cube (2009 year-to-date): 1,306
Traditionally more conservative buyers (Americans) are taking to the Cube while the sometimes more adventurous buyers (Canadians) seem turned off in favour of the Kia Soul. Porque?
ReplyDeletesoul's more fun. dealers give better deals. being herefirst couldn't hurt either.

This is too bad. I'm in the market for a new car, preferabbly small for NYC inner city travel, but big enough to hold 4. So I'm looking at the Scion xB and Cube, and prefer the "funky" stylings of the Cube, but I've got to tell you: in my neighborhood of Brooklyn, I probably see a good half dozen Scions each day just walking to the subway station. I have not yet once seen a single Cube, and it worries me (as a potential buyer). Any thoughts appreciated.
