RECALL – NISSAN PATHFINDER, FRONTIER, AND XTERRA

Hopefully, this will become a tradition. You, GoodCarBadCar.net – a Saturday meeting time for Recall watch. Today, the ’05-’09 Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra find themselves involved in a highly specific NHTSA recall regarding salt and airbags.
The connection, ye seek. Well, 242,720 of these Nissan toughs that were sold in or current registered in the states mentioned below likely suffer from the dreaded grayish hue on their flanks in the winter season. But road salt does much more than mess up paint and rust the body of a car. In Nissan’s case, “a mixture of snow/water and salt can enter into the front crash zone sensor housing”. You do the math. Okay, don’t. “If this occurs,” NHTSA says, “the CZS may internally rust resulting in a signal interruption. If this happens, the red air bag warning light will illuminate to alert the vehicle operator.”
The greatest danger is that airbags in current and slightly used Frontiers, Pathfinders, and Xterras may not deploy when they ought to do so. To remedy this, Nissan has readied a redesigned CZS to be fitted to all these vehicles, with a warranty stretching to 10 years for owners of the same vehicles in other states. 1-800-647-7261 is the number to call if you’re curious as to whether your vehicle falls into the primary or secondary category. Question: why isn’t Alaska mentioned below? Are they sanding only? And will owners in Hawaii be granted the 10-year warranty on this CZS too?
States affected: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, D.C.
